Turners visit Fort Langley

Well, not quite. But a couple of weekends ago we hired a car and drove out to Fort Langley. We weren't sure what to expect but it was a nice drive and we discovered a lovely little village-like town that reminded us of the Dandenongs/Sassafrass. It was great!

Earlier that day we actually went to Canadian Tire and bought el cheapo bikes so we thought we'd be able to find somewhere to ride but we didn't really. How sad.

So we just walked around to the Fort and decided we will try to take Lach's parents here when they come over to visit. There are heaps of antique stores and stuff like that, we think they'll like it!

Here's a pic of the community centre, it's a cheery yellow and looks really cool in real life!

It was a great day and good to get out and about. The car plan is on hold due to BC bureaucracy, so we will hire cars for now. We found a place around the corner that is pretty cheap for day trips.

Lately we've also made our own chinese pork dumplings.

They were the best we've eaten in Vancouver (sad right?!) BUT...Lach has been walking/running the Grouse Grind (basically stairs carved into the side of the mountain) every Monday and everyone goes out for dinner afterwards. Well !! I joined them last Monday and we ended up going to this great, Shanghai Dumpling House-esque little place and had delicious dumplings! Finally!!!! So at least if we can't be bothered making our own we know where to go now! :-D

We also got an electric scooter from a friend - it's SOOOOO awesome! Yesterday we went for a little ride and picnic. Lach on his el cheapo bike, me on the scooter. It was fun, if not a little scarey going downhill with only a front brake working. haha. Will have to remember to take a picture soon to show you all our ride ;-)

Viva La Vida

Yup, it was pretty awesome. I would say better than the U2 show we saw last year, but I think Lach disagrees.

The opening band (Howling Bells?) was a little interesting - I think if they'd used Coldplay's sound guy it would've been a million times better (took a while to even figure out what the band was called...)

Then...Snow Patrol! They were GREAT. And I didn't know I liked Snow Patrol that much, but they were really cool and got the crowd going. And somehow I knew more of their songs than I thought I did. lol

Coldplay. Wow. Seriously, best concert I've been to...so far. So entertaining - staging, musically, everything. They had giant yellow balloons bouncing around during 'Yellow'. When they burst, butterfly cutouts fell from them. They also had a huge globey thing that they beamed images of the concert onto. It was way cool. Our friends Kirsten and Nicole had choreographed dances to some of the songs earlier in the day, in order to learn the words - well, they got the chance to bust them out (for 'Lost')! They had tickets at the floor level and I can only imagine it was totally awesome down there! At one point the band came up to the back end of the arena and played a few songs including 'Green Eyes' and 'I'm a Believer' cover. We could SEE them! It was so fun. They laughed and had a good time, so we all had a good time! I just loved how they DIDN'T just play their songs how we hear them on the radio/cd, they added bits, took away bits, played them faster, sang words about sitting at the back of a Coldplay concert/Vancouver.

When we left, we got to go on radio (Fox i think) to say how cool the concert was! Such a fantastic night...I think I like Coldplay more than I did before! haha

Lachie's 30th

Had a great birthday. Shae made eggs benedict in the morning which were very tasty. In the evening we met up with our crew of Canadians and Aussies and headed out to north van - to a nice little belgian beer cafe for beer and mussels, then back to our place for cake... fantastic!

The sunshine coast makes a great holiday

We just got back from a lovely weekend at the Sunshine Coast...Sechelt to be exact. Same name, different experience. There were no sandy beaches, just a rocky one but it was great! We went to visit my Auntie and Uncle and had a very restful time. It was fantastic to just get away but do nothing, especially since I was still a bit sick.

Lach took some fantastic photos - you can see them on Facebook or Flickr. I have put a few in here. I have to apologise for the formatting. I am not sure why it keeps doing this with pics...sorry!

A different take on "tree houses"
